Ofori-Atta expected to appear before SP on June 2 or risk being declared fugitive again with INTERPOL Red Notice

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta must appear before the Special Prosecutor on June 2 or face being declared a fugitive again, with an INTERPOL Red Notice to follow.

Former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta is expected to report in person to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Monday, June 2, 2025, as investigations continue into five high-profile cases linked to his time in office under former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The OSP has warned that if Mr. Ofori-Atta fails to appear, he will be re-listed as a fugitive from justice and an INTERPOL Red Notice will be issued to facilitate his arrest internationally.

The investigations focus on several controversial financial and procurement dealings, including:

  • Revenue assurance contracts between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA),
  • The termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC),
  • Financial and procurement issues regarding the National Cathedral project,
  • A Ministry of Health ambulance procurement contract with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited,
  • The management of the GRA’s Tax P-Fund Account.

Mr. Ofori-Atta was initially designated a suspect by the OSP in January 2025 and invited to appear on February 10.

However, his lawyers responded that he was undergoing medical treatment abroad and could not confirm a return date.

The OSP rejected the explanation and declared him a fugitive on February 12 after no firm medical proof or timeline was provided.

In mid-February, Mr. Ofori-Atta finally indicated he would return in May. The OSP accepted his assurance and removed him from its wanted list.

In March, the former minister filed a lawsuit against the OSP, seeking compensation for what he called an unlawful declaration and requesting the removal of related online notices.

Now, the spotlight is back on him.

According to the latest document released by the OSP detailing the timeline of events in the case, if Mr. Ofori-Atta fails to honour the OSP’s summons on June 2, he risks facing international law enforcement action via INTERPOL, as the office prepares to escalate the matter globally.
