GOC Northern Command commissions new blood bank and upgraded wards at Kamina Barracks, with support from the Bank of Ghana to enhance healthcare in Tamale. Last updated: June 2, 2025 3:25 pm.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei, on Thursday, May 29, 2025, commissioned a newly established Blood Bank and refurbished Emergency, Paediatric, and Female Wards at the 6 Medical Reception Station (6MRS) at Kamina Barracks in Tamale.

Delivering the keynote address at the ceremony, Brigadier General Tei described the new facilities as more than just physical infrastructure, calling them “a beacon of hope, a symbol of compassion, and a legacy of partnership.”

He emphasized that the initiative reflects a shared commitment to building a healthier and more resilient society.
“Meaningful progress is built on collective action,” he noted, highlighting the vital collaboration between Headquarters Northern Command, the Bank of Ghana, and other development partners.


He urged all stakeholders to sustain the momentum by ensuring the facilities remain fully functional through routine maintenance, adequate resourcing, and continued support. Brigadier General Tei also commended the staff of 6MRS for their dedication and professionalism, encouraging them to uphold high standards of service and stewardship.

Speaking at the event, Abdul-Aziz Mohammed, Regional Director of the Bank of Ghana in Tamale, expressed pride in the Bank’s partnership with the Ghana Armed Forces. He described the newly commissioned blood bank as a strategic facility intended to serve both military personnel and the broader Tamale community.

Mohammed reaffirmed the Bank of Ghana’s commitment to supporting the 6MRS and the Ghana Armed Forces in future initiatives, calling the partnership mutually beneficial.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior military officials, Bank of Ghana representatives, medical personnel, and members of the local community, who welcomed the development as a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the Northern Region.
